You will be leading a squad of five to seven (including yourself) on a field exercise. Each of these squad members has a specific skill set which will contribute to either the success or failure of the exercise. You, as the SQUAD LEADER, set the “tone”, establish roles and duties, and maintain overall responsibility for all that your squad does or fails to do.
You will be briefed in detail on the field exercise prior to departing for the operating area. Hopefully you will have encouraged your squad members to thoroughly prepare for the field exercise. Each member has been given specific instructions and a short tutorial regarding his/her specific skill set. What are those skill sets? They are listed below. This is an outdoor exercise involving the use of a compass, map, radio and a way to measure distance traveled. Your squad will be tasked with adhering to a timeline while navigating a course over local terrain. This is a competitive event, the details of which will be thoroughly briefed prior to the exercise.
