Black Belt Class Saves Local Bank Executive from Infamous Fan Club
For two days in late October (Vancouver BC), the GTB Black Belt Class from HSBC (Hong Kong Shanghai Bancorp) discussed, exercised, and worked with LEADERSHIP principles, or IMPERATIVES that are embraced by the former US Marines of Business Battlefield Seminars (BBS).
Prepped” before they arrived on site in Vancouver, BC, by an OpsCenter website that was crafted by BBS solely for this HSBC Black Belt class (see www.businessbattlefield.com/hsbcvancouver/hsbc.html), the attendees reported for training ready and enthusiastic.
The scenario goal for this exercise was to “rescue” a local Canadian bank official from an infamous fan club of beer swilling hockey fans that had kidnapped the executive for public relations reasons. Several exercises and lectures were delivered to the Black Belt class once the 6 Business Battlefield Marines landed. These early exercises were designed to maximize learning, difficulty, team experience, on the spot decision making and fun, and to further build the anticipation for the following day’s outdoor Field Training Exercise (FTX).
During the FTX, the HSBC participants were taken out of their comfort zones and forced to make decisions, communicate, negotiate, plan and execute, all in order to achieve a grander mission or vision. The FTX consumed 6 hours of training and delighted 45 participants. The physical and intellectual difficulty and interactivity and unpredictability of this FTX made it truly a “leaders’ reaction course.”
The HSBC teams performed expertly, taking on all challenges and problems as they were “thrown” to them. In the end, with 2 minutes to spare, HSBC TEAM BLACK BELT, accomplished their mission and freed their well-respected executive from captivity.
It is appropriate that these HSBC participants are called “Black Belts.”
